New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd has been hospitalized again, less than two weeks after he suffered a gunshot wound, while police continue to search for the gunman.
Boyd was shot in the early hours of Nov. 16 during a confrontation outside a Midtown Manhattan restaurant. Authorities said the round entered his abdomen, then migrated into his lung and lodged near the pulmonary artery, leading to multiple procedures.
He later posted on social media that he'd begun breathing without assistance, but on Wednesday night told his followers he'd been readmitted.
'I was released but had to return to the hospital due to my health issues,' Boyd wrote in part. 'I love and appreciate everyone of yall dearly who has prayed/reached out even if I can't get back to you.
'Head HIGH, God is not through with me yet!'
Jets coach Aaron Glenn said Friday the team was informed Boyd had experienced a setback and returned for treatment, noting the Jets are still gathering details. A team spokesperson offered no additional update.
The NYPD has identified a person of interest with help from a CrimeStoppers tip, and surveillance video reportedly shows the suspect fleeing on foot before entering a white BMW a few blocks away. No arrests have been made.
Police said the incident began with an argument between groups as Boyd, accompanied by teammates Jamien Sherwood and Irvin Charles and another friend, left the venue shortly after 2 a.m. Boyd was taken to Bellevue Hospital and initially listed in critical but stable condition.
The 29-year-old, who landed on injured reserve in August with a shoulder injury, has not played this season. Boyd previously spent time with the Vikings, Texans and Cardinals.
