New Delhi [India], March 26 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday accused BJP of using history to gain political mileage and divide the country on religious and caste lines.
Yadav also stressed that historical events cannot be judged by today's standards, and decisions taken in the past were based on the circumstances of that time. He argued that the democratic system of today cannot be run based on historical events and urged the BJP government to correct its 'discriminatory habits' and focus on issues concerning people's livelihood, health, and security.
This comes after vandalism and stone pelting outside the residence of Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman in Agra. In a social media post on X, SP Chief wrote, 'In today's time, one cannot interpret past events based on history. Decisions taken in the past were based on the demands of the time. Today's democratic system cannot be run based on historical events. The BJP government should improve its divisive tendencies and focus on the livelihood, health, and security of the people. The BJP is a divisive party.'
He accused that BJP has always used certain historical issues to gain political mileage and divide the country on religious and caste lines.
'Our MP was trying to give an example of one-sided history and its interpretation. None of our efforts are meant to insult the Rajput community or any other community,' Yadav posted on X.
Notably, Suman sparked controversy with his statement on Rana Sanga, a 16th-century Rajput king, calling him a 'traitor' for allegedly bringing Babur, the founder of the Mughal dynasty, to defeat Ibrahim Lodi.
Rana Sanga, also known as Sangram Singh I, was the ruler of Mewar from 1508 to 1528 and is revered for his bravery and sacrifices. Suman's statement has been widely criticized, with many calling for an apology and action against him.
In a statement, Yadav emphasized that his party believes in social justice and equality, and their aim is to give respect to even the weakest members of society.

Yadav clarified that the Samajwadi Party is not questioning the valor and patriotism of historical figures like Rana Sanga, the king of Mewar. Instead, their MP was trying to highlight the one-sided interpretation of history. Yadav assured that their intention is not to insult any community, including the Rajput society.
'The Samajwadi Party believes in establishing a society based on social justice and equality. We want to give respect to every individual, no matter how weak. Our purpose cannot be to insult any historical figure. The Samajwadi Party is not questioning the bravery and patriotism of Rana Sanga, the king of Mewar,' added Yadav. (ANI)
