Pune (Maharashtra) [India], March 24 (ANI): The Pune unit of Shiv Sena has strongly condemned stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra for his alleged objectionable comments targeting Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde.
Kamra's remarks were delivered through a song in a video posted on the social media platform X. The video, allegedly made during Kunal Kamra's stand-up comedy show, has sparked outrage among Shiv Sena members, who have demanded a public apology.
Pramod Bhangire, Chief of Pune City Shiv Sena, expressed his disapproval, stating, 'Maharashtra is the land of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Phule, Shahu Maharaj, and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. It is utterly shameful and unacceptable to insult the leadership and representatives of this land in such a low and disrespectful manner.'
Bhangire emphasized that Eknath Shinde is a popular leader elected by the people of Maharashtra who has consistently worked for the state's development and public welfare. He described Kamra's remarks as an insult not only to Shinde but also to the people of Maharashtra.
'In a democracy, freedom of expression is respected, but crossing its boundaries and using extremely low-level language is never acceptable in cultured Maharashtra,' Bhangire added. He called for strict action against Kamra's 'irresponsible statements' to prevent further disrespect to public representatives and societal sentiments.
The Shiv Sena leader warned that if Kamra does not issue a public apology to the people of Maharashtra and Eknath Shinde, the party will take further action. 'It won't take long for us to put Kunal Kamra in his place,' he asserted, urging competent authorities to initiate legal proceedings against the comedian. (ANI)
