Gary Woodland, a PGA Tour veteran and U.S. Open champion, is recovering after a "long surgery" to remove a brain tumor on Monday, according to a statement posted to Woodland's social media accounts.
The statement said a majority of the tumor had been removed and Woodland is now resting following the procedure.
"At this time, the family requests space and privacy to be together," the statement said. "Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers as he gets started on the road to recovery."
Woodland, 39, announced last month that a lesion had been discovered on his brain and the decision became the best course of action after trying to treat his symptoms with medication.
Woodland has won four times on the PGA Tour, scoring his biggest victory at the 2019 U.S. Open with a three-shot win over Brooks Koepka.
It is not yet known when Woodland will be able to return to the golf course.
