BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines over the past week:
1. Qingdao triumphs in Clipper race
Qingdao led a parade of sail at London's Royal Docks on July 30 after finishing as the overall winner of the 2019-20 season Clipper Round The World Yacht Race.
The journey started in the summer of 2019 from London, but was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic until this March. After racing over 40,000 nautical miles around the world, Qingdao, representing the Chinese sailing city, claimed the overall champion with a total of 145 points.
2. Chinese footballer Shen Menglu joins Celtic women's team
Chinese international striker Wu Lei has confirmed that he will shortly move back to Shanghai Port from the La Liga side Espanyol.
He will have come a full circle with the move back to Shanghai Port, the club he left in January 2019 to join Espanyol.
4. 2022-23 CBA season to kick off on October 10
The 2022-23 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) season will kick off on October 10.
According to an announcement released by the league's governing body on Monday, 20 teams will participate in the new season, which features a total of 42 rounds during the regular season.
The 20 teams will be divided into four groups with five teams each. Each team will play in-group teams three times and out-of-group teams twice. The top 12 finishers in the regular season will advance to the playoffs, which include round of 12, quarterfinals, semifinals and the finals.
5. All-Star guard Guo Ailun wants to leave Liaoning
All-Star point guard Guo Ailun asked Tuesday to leave Liaoning Flying Leopards after serving the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) champions for 12 years.
Guo, 29, informed the club of his intention through his agent team by e-mail on Tuesday, citing for better development of himself and better service for the Chinese national team as the reasons to leave.
The Liaoning Flying Leopards said on Friday that the club will stick to its contract extension priority rights with Guo Ailun in the CBA, unless he goes to play in the NBA or Euroleague.
6. Chinese golf pro Feng Shanshan announces retirement
Chinese women's professional golfer Feng Shanshan announced her retirement through social media platform on Tuesday.
Before her announcement, the 32-year-old golf pro has been appointed as the head coach of the Chinese women's national team.
In November, 2017, she became women's world No. 1 and stayed atop for 23 weeks.
