Medical professional and entrepreneur Dr. Scott Zack, from Detroit, Michigan, explains the importance of workplace first aid knowledge.
DETROIT, MI / March 26, 2020 / From traditional CPR to training in the use of external defibrillators, first aid knowledge in the workplace is today more vital than ever, according to Michigan-based Dr. Scott Zack. A qualified medical professional and entrepreneur from Detroit, Dr. Zack outlines the increasing value of first aid knowledge and ongoing training for businesses and their staff.
"First aid knowledge has never been more important," suggests Dr. Scott Zack, speaking from his office in Detroit, Michigan, "particularly in the workplace."
First aid-trained, entrepreneur and medical professional Dr. Scott Zack is a long-standing advocate for first aid training, both in the community and in the workplace. "Whether in the workplace or the community, first aid knowledge saves lives every day, right across the U.S. and worldwide," adds the expert.
In the U.S., first aid training is available from organizations including First Aid USA and the American Red Cross, according to Dr. Zack. Qualified in medicine and trained in first aid for more than two decades, Dr. Scott Zack goes on to highlight a number of key areas of first aid knowledge and training, and explains why they're particularly important in the workplace. "Emergencies can happen anywhere, and at any time, but people very often fall sick at work," suggests Dr. Zack.
Second only to becoming ill in the home, falling sick at work is commonplace, according to Dr. Scott Zack. "We spend much of our time at work, so it should come as no surprise that it's here that many people tend to fall ill," he explains, "and often with potentially life-threatening conditions, such as cardiac arrest."
With this in mind, Dr. Zack says it's vital that employers and employees alike take first aid knowledge and training seriously. "From traditional CPR to training in the use of automated external defibrillators, we should all commit to maintaining a solid degree of first aid knowledge," he goes on, "in anticipation of future emergency situations, particularly in the workplace."
The same is doubly true, according to Dr. Scott Zack, in workplaces located in rural or more remote areas, and those where limited specialty medical backup exists. Appropriate training, Dr. Zack reveals, from organizations such as the American Red Cross, is now available online, in person, and via so-called blended training methods. "As such, there's no reason not to embrace the importance of first aid knowledge, both in and out of the workplace," suggests the medical professional.
Organizations such as First Aid USA, meanwhile, Dr. Scott Zack goes on to emphasize, even specialize in classes designed specifically for workplace emergencies. "It's important that we all take employee safety seriously," says Dr. Zack. Management and more technical training options, he further notes, are also available, aimed at executives and other more senior members of staff.
"Further to potentially saving lives, the value of first aid knowledge in the workplace doesn't stop there, either," adds Dr. Scott Zack, wrapping up, "with the correct first aid training for employees also a significant factor in reducing workers' compensation expenses – an added bonus for business owners across the board."
