Roger Royse, an experienced advisor to venture funds, mid-market companies and technology startups, will join Haynes and Boone, LLP as a partner.
Royse will bring a team of Silicon Valley lawyers from the firm he founded in 2006, the Royse Law Firm, PC. These lawyers represent a broad spectrum of experience, including tax, intellectual property, and finance.
"We are excited to welcome Roger and his distinguished colleagues to Haynes and Boone," said Managing Partner Tim Powers. "Royse Law is a well-established firm with deep connections to the venture capital community. This team perfectly complements our existing practice strengths and will help us further our longstanding commitments to achieve strategic growth in California and to build recognized practices in emerging technology sectors."
Royse established his firm to provide startup-up friendly representation to early-stage companies across a broad spectrum of matters - from corporate, financing, fund formation, and tax advice to employment and intellectual property services. The firm grew to 27 lawyers, operated from offices in San Francisco, Orange County, Santa Monica, and Beijing and advised entities internationally.
Royse works with companies ranging from newly-formed startups to publicly-traded multinationals in various industries, including the agriculture technology (AgTech), healthcare tech (Health Tech) and financial technology (FinTech) sectors. He advises on complex tax structuring, high-stakes business negotiations, and financial transactions.
"Haynes and Boone can provide the companies we advise with a greater depth of services worldwide, which will allow us to continue to represent existing clients through the life of their businesses and to reach many new clients," Royse said. "I am thrilled to join Haynes and Boone, not just because of the strength and breadth of its platform but also because it is such a good cultural fit; like me, the firm is focused on providing clients with high-quality, sophisticated advice and is adept at using technology to deliver services in the most effective, efficient manner possible."
In addition to his legal practice, Royse is a philanthropist, educator, speaker and author, who has penned numerous books and articles about startups, emerging technologies, and contemporary legal issues. He is heavily invested in supporting local communities and charities through volunteer work and the Royse Foundation.
He is also active in leadership roles with several bar associations, such as: Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel; Chair of the Committee on Tax Practice Management of the ABA Tax Section; Member of the ABA Task Force On Tax Legislation (2018-2019); California state delegate to the ABA House of Delegates; California co-chair of the Fellows of the American Bar Foundation; Vice Chair, Agricultural Law Committee of the ABA Solo, Small Firm and General Practice Division; and ABA Business Law Section liaison to the ABA Section of Taxation.
Royse will join Haynes in Boone in its Silicon Valley Office with his Royse Law colleagues: Marvin Glazer; Frances Johnston; Angela Kwok; Alexis Maguina; Thomas Moore; Satya Narayan; and Virginia Slutu.
Haynes and Boone, LLP is an international corporate law firm with offices in Texas, New York, California, Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, Washington, D.C., London, Mexico City and Shanghai, providing a full spectrum of legal services in energy, technology, financial services and private equity. With more than 575 lawyers, Haynes and Boone is ranked among the largest U.S.-based firms by The National Law Journal, The American Lawyer and The Lawyer. It also ranks among the nation's most recommended law firms by general counsel, according to BTI Consulting Group's "Most Recommended Law Firms 2019" report.
